TJ, Neil and baby dog Mango

Have you ever met someone with whom you had an instant connection? That was TJ. I put out a model call on social media for a couple with one or both people being persons of color. My dear friend Lauren shared that post and connected me with TJ. Spring got away from us and summer was quickly doing the same, until we had the chance to finally meet up a few minutes before seeing Gregory Alan Iaskov perform with the Colorado Symphony in Denver. The next day I was able to connect with TJ again and also met her husband Neil. We had a brief chat, though I felt like I we could've talked for hours. Come to find out TJ and I had similar interests and struggles and we both come from the south. I feel like a lot of times coming from the south is its own struggle [insert laugh here]!

Fast forward to a beautiful, crisp autumn afternoon in the foothills of the Rockies. I was so excited to finally get to photograph TJ and Neil, but they sweetened the deal by bringing their new puppy Mango. I had my assistant Gracie with me, and her job consisted mostly of wrangling little Mango. Could there be a better job? No. I think not! Mango was as cooperative as a puppy could be, but it added so much fun to the session! If you're ever worried about whether or not to bring your pup, do it! I always find locations that allow dogs.

I'm going to limit this because I've already given too much backstory, but TJ and Neil were absolute naturals in front of the camera. They were so sweet and charismatic and I could tell while editing their session that their love was genuine. The happiness on both of their faces was just a glimpse into how much fun they were to photograph and to be around.

I am so grateful they answered the call and trusted me to capture them in this season of their lives.
